Allegation of Sewage Contamination in Drinking Water in Vaniyambadi – Video Goes Viral

Vaniyambadi, Aug. 23: More than 500 families reside in the Kollath Street area of Ward No. 22, under Vaniyambadi Municipality, Tirupattur District.

Residents of the area have alleged that, for the past one month, the drinking water supplied by the municipality has been contaminated with sewage and human waste.

As a result, residents say they are unable to use the water for drinking and other household purposes. They have also expressed concern that using the contaminated water has led to health problems such as fever and allergies.

Residents stated that they had lodged several complaints with the municipal administration regarding the issue, but a permanent solution has not yet been found.

Meanwhile, as part of the measures taken to address the problem, the municipal authorities installed a large pipeline at one location and advised residents to let the initial water flow out before using the drinking water.

However, residents allege that even after this measure, sewage and human waste continue to mix with the water coming through the drinking-water pipeline. They have expressed concern over the potential health risks, particularly to children and elderly people.

Meanwhile, videos allegedly showing sewage and human waste mixing with water from the drinking-water pipeline have surfaced on social media and have gone viral, creating concern among the public.

Residents have therefore urged the District Administration and Vaniyambadi Municipality to intervene immediately, identify the cause of sewage contamination in the drinking-water pipeline, and take permanent measures to resolve the issue.

The residents have further warned that if immediate action is not taken, they will hold a road blockade protest and stage a protest by laying siege to the Vaniyambadi Municipal Office.
