The Allahabad High Court has called for an immediate overhaul of Uttar Pradesh's school history‑sheet guidelines, which date back to the 19th century.
The Allahabad High Court has observed that Uttar Pradesh's regulations governing school history‑sheet content are rooted in a 19th‑century framework and no longer suit contemporary educational needs. In a recent judgment, the court urged the state government to revise these outdated guidelines without delay.
The bench highlighted that retaining colonial‑era prescriptions may impede the delivery of an inclusive and balanced curriculum. It recommended that the education department convene a panel of historians, educators and scholars to draft new rules reflecting modern scholarship and societal realities.
While the court did not prescribe a specific timeline, it stressed that the revision is essential to ensure that students receive a history education that is both accurate and relevant to present‑day India.
