The Allahabad High Court denied bail to the accused in a Rs 16 crore cyber fraud, calling cyber crime a “silent virus”.

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday refused bail to a suspect linked to a cyber fraud that allegedly siphoned off around Rs 16 crore from victims. The bench, while delivering the order, described cyber crime as a "silent virus" that spreads unnoticed and causes extensive financial damage.

According to court records, the accused was charged with orchestrating a sophisticated online scheme that targeted individuals and businesses across multiple states, using phishing emails and fake websites to obtain money. The prosecution presented evidence of electronic fund transfers and digital footprints that traced the flow of the illicit proceeds.

The court noted that the gravity of the offence, the large quantum of money involved, and the risk of tampering with evidence justified the denial of bail. The accused remains in custody pending further trial proceedings.

Legal experts said the decision underscores the judiciary's growing concern over high‑value cyber scams and the need for stringent measures to deter such activities. The case is expected to set a precedent for handling future cyber‑related financial crimes in India.

The investigation continues under the cyber cell of the Uttar Pradesh police, which has urged the public to remain vigilant against online fraud attempts.
