Rescue teams have retrieved the bodies of all ten workers missing after a collapse in Chamoli district, bringing the death toll to ten.

Rescue personnel from the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority concluded a week‑long operation on Thursday, confirming that the bodies of all ten workers who went missing in a landslide‑related incident in Chamoli district have been recovered. The operation, which involved mountain rescue teams, local police and volunteers, was launched after the workers failed to return from a construction site on the steep slopes of the Himalayas.

Authorities said the workers were part of a contract crew engaged in infrastructure work when a sudden rockfall and soil movement trapped them. Initial reports had listed several individuals as missing, prompting a large‑scale search that employed helicopters, drones and ground teams.

With the recovery now complete, the official death toll stands at ten. Families have been notified and are being provided with counseling and assistance. The district administration has announced a period of mourning and will conduct a formal inquiry to determine the cause of the collapse and assess safety protocols for future projects.

The incident underscores the hazards faced by laborers in remote mountainous regions and has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of safety standards in high‑risk construction zones across the state.
