AJP chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi called for a lasting resolution to the long‑standing Assam‑Meghalaya border issue, urging both state governments and the centre to act promptly.
Asom Jatiyatabadi Party (AJP) chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi addressed the media on Thursday, stressing the need for a permanent settlement of the Assam‑Meghalaya border problem that has flared repeatedly over the years. He said the recurring clashes over demarcation not only disrupt local livelihoods but also strain inter‑state relations.
Gogoi urged the governments of Assam and Meghalaya, along with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, to convene a high‑level committee that can negotiate a clear, mutually‑accepted boundary. He warned that temporary fixes have failed to prevent periodic confrontations and that a durable agreement is essential for peace and development in the region.
The AJP leader also appealed to the central government to expedite the deployment of additional administrative and security resources to monitor the disputed stretch, ensuring that any agreement is implemented effectively. He concluded by calling on political leaders to prioritize the welfare of border communities over partisan interests.
