In Ajmer’s high‑security jail, 10‑12 cats now accompany guards on patrols, helping monitor inmates and detect disturbances. The feline presence reportedly prevented a cobra attack that could have harmed a gangster.
Ajmer’s high‑security jail has taken an unconventional step by incorporating cats into its daily patrols. Around ten to twelve felines now roam the corridors alongside prison officers, keeping a watchful eye on inmates.
The cats are believed to help spot unusual movements and disturbances, acting as an extra layer of vigilance in the facility. Their presence has reportedly reduced the need for additional human patrols during certain hours.
In a recent incident, a cobra slipped into the jail compound. The cats, alert to the snake’s presence, alerted the guards and helped prevent the animal from attacking a gangster who was nearby. The swift response is credited with saving the gangster’s life.
Jail officials say the feline patrols have improved overall safety and also help reduce stress among the staff. The initiative has drawn attention from both local media and animal‑rights groups.
The program is still in its early stages, but the authorities plan to continue monitoring its effectiveness and possibly expand the number of cats involved.
