AIADMK, Left parties call for all‑party meeting with Tamil Nadu govt on Mekedatu project

AIADMK and several Left parties have publicly targeted the Tamil Nadu state government over its approach to the Mekedatu water‑transfer project. The opposition groups contend that the state’s stance on the inter‑state scheme lacks transparency and could have adverse implications for regional water security.

In a joint statement, the parties accused the government of sidelining public opinion and called for a comprehensive discussion involving all political stakeholders. They emphasized that the Mekedatu project, which involves diverting water from the Cauvery basin, requires broader consensus given its potential impact on agriculture and livelihoods.

The opposition leaders have therefore demanded an all‑party meeting to be convened by the chief minister, seeking to bring the issue before the legislature and ensure that any decision reflects a wider political and public consensus.
