The Andhra Pradesh government will use artificial intelligence to monitor and manage pilgrim crowds during the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu.

The state government of Andhra Pradesh has announced that artificial intelligence (AI) will be employed to oversee crowd movement during the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, a major Hindu pilgrimage along the Godavari River. Officials say AI‑driven tools will analyze real‑time data from cameras and sensors to predict congestion points and assist security personnel in directing devotees safely. The initiative aims to enhance crowd safety, reduce the risk of stampedes, and improve overall management of the massive influx of pilgrims expected at the festival.

While details of the specific technologies have not been disclosed, authorities intend to integrate AI analytics with existing surveillance infrastructure. The move reflects a broader push by Indian states to adopt smart solutions for large‑scale public events. The Hindu reported the plan, noting that the festival, held once every twelve years, draws millions of worshippers to the banks of the Godavari.

The deployment is scheduled for the 2027 edition of the Pushkaralu, giving officials ample time to test and refine the system. If successful, the AI‑based crowd management model could become a template for future religious gatherings across the country.
