Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has announced new guidelines aligning road construction with national highway standards, requiring soil testing before construction and setting vehicle load criteria.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has unveiled a set of new guidelines that will bring the city’s road construction practices in line with national highway standards. The move is aimed at improving the durability and safety of roads across the metropolis.

A key component of the guidelines is the mandatory soil testing that must be carried out before any construction work begins. The tests will assess the soil’s bearing capacity and suitability for supporting the expected traffic loads.

In addition to soil testing, the guidelines introduce specific vehicle load criteria. These criteria will dictate the maximum permissible weight for vehicles using the newly constructed or upgraded roads, ensuring that the pavement can withstand regular traffic without rapid deterioration.

City officials say the changes will reduce maintenance costs over time and enhance road safety for commuters. The guidelines are expected to be implemented in the coming months, with a phased rollout across priority road projects.
