The 480‑metre bridge over the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad has been finished, marking a significant step toward the Delhi‑Mumbai bullet‑train corridor.
The 480‑metre bridge spanning the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad has been completed, a major milestone for the high‑speed rail project. The structure, which connects the eastern and western banks of the river, is a critical link in the planned Delhi‑Mumbai bullet‑train corridor. Construction began in 2019 and the bridge was officially opened to the public in early October after meeting all safety and quality standards. With this achievement, the project is now closer to achieving its target of a 1,600‑kilometre high‑speed line by 2030.
Officials highlighted that the bridge will reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Mumbai by several hours, boosting economic integration across the region. The completion also demonstrates the government's commitment to modernizing India's rail infrastructure and meeting the growing demand for faster intercity connectivity.
The next phase involves laying tracks on the bridge and installing signalling systems, which are expected to be finished by the end of this year. Once operational, the high‑speed line will connect major cities such as Surat, Vadodara, and Pune, further enhancing the national transport network.
