Lawyers across India have urged the government to introduce a standard operating procedure for survey proceedings and to expedite the issuance of notices, aiming to streamline legal processes.
Lawyers representing various bar associations have presented a memorandum to the Ministry of Law and Justice demanding the formulation of a clear standard operating procedure (SOP) for survey proceedings. The memorandum also calls for a reduction in the time taken to issue notices in such cases.
The advocates argue that the absence of a uniform SOP leads to inconsistencies and delays, affecting both litigants and the judiciary. Faster notice issuance, they contend, would enhance transparency and reduce the backlog of pending cases.
In response, the Ministry has acknowledged receipt of the demands and said it will review the proposals. No official statement on a timeline for implementation has been released yet.
The call comes amid growing concerns over procedural delays in civil and criminal matters across the country.
