The Asian Development Bank has approved a $200 million loan to fund infrastructure and environmental initiatives aimed at improving livability across Uttarakhand.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced the approval of a $200 million loan to the state of Uttarakhand. The financing is earmarked for a range of projects that will enhance urban infrastructure, water supply, waste management and disaster‑resilient housing, thereby improving overall livability for residents.

According to the loan agreement, the funds will be channelled through the state government and its development agencies, with implementation overseen by ADB’s regional office. The bank expects the projects to generate sustainable economic benefits and reduce environmental risks in the hilly region.

Uttarakhand officials welcomed the support, noting that the loan aligns with the state’s long‑term plan to upgrade basic services and attract investment. The initiative is part of ADB’s broader strategy to promote inclusive growth in South Asia.

The loan disbursement is scheduled to begin later this year, subject to the completion of detailed project reports and compliance with environmental safeguards.

Stakeholders, including local municipalities and community groups, have been invited to participate in the planning process to ensure that the interventions address the most pressing needs of the population.
