The Asian Development Bank has released the initial $108 million tranche of a loan to fund Mizoram's new healthcare initiative, aiming to strengthen medical infrastructure across the state.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved and released the first tranche of a $108 million loan earmarked for a comprehensive healthcare scheme in Mizoram. The funding is intended to upgrade existing hospitals, expand primary health centres, and improve medical equipment in remote areas of the state.

State officials said the loan will be drawn in phases, with the initial disbursement covering critical infrastructure projects such as the renovation of Aizawl's main hospital and the establishment of telemedicine hubs in border districts. The ADB loan complements earlier central and state budget allocations for health, aiming to bridge gaps in service delivery.

Mizoram's Health Minister welcomed the support, noting that the infusion of capital will accelerate the rollout of preventive care programs and enhance emergency response capabilities. The project is slated for completion within five years, subject to regular monitoring by both the state government and ADB.

The ADB has highlighted that the scheme aligns with its broader regional development goals, focusing on equitable access to quality health services for underserved populations in India's North-East.

Stakeholders, including local NGOs and medical professionals, have been invited to participate in the planning and implementation phases to ensure that the funds address the most pressing health needs of Mizoram's residents.
