Actress Pooja Bedi backs anti-CEC protesters, urges citizens to defend democracy

Actress Pooja Bedi issued a public statement backing the anti-CEC protesters who have taken to the streets across several Indian cities. In her remarks, Bedi urged ordinary citizens to speak out against what she described as threats to democratic processes.
The anti-CEC movement, which began earlier this month, alleges that the Central Election Commission is compromising the integrity of upcoming elections. Demonstrators have staged rallies and sit‑ins, demanding greater transparency and accountability from the electoral body.
Bedi’s endorsement adds a high‑profile voice to the protest, highlighting the growing concern among public figures about the state of India’s democracy. Political analysts note that celebrity involvement could amplify the movement’s visibility, though officials have not yet responded to her comments.
The actress concluded by encouraging every Indian to remain vigilant and to use their constitutional right to free expression in safeguarding democratic institutions.
