Praveen Narayan, who suffered severe burns in an acid attack during a land dispute in Malinagar village, Samastipur, died at Darbhanga Medical College Hospital 23 days after the incident.
On July 29, a violent confrontation over a piece of land in Malinagar village, Samastipur district, turned deadly when an acid bottle was hurled at 27-year-old Praveen Narayan. The assault left him with extensive burns covering large portions of his body.
Narayan was rushed to Darbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he remained under intensive care for more than three weeks. Despite multiple surgeries and constant medical attention, his condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries on the 23rd day after the attack.
Four other individuals were also injured in the incident, though their injuries were reported as less severe. Local police have registered a criminal case and are investigating the motive behind the acid assault, which appears linked to the ongoing land dispute.
The tragedy adds to the growing concern over acid violence in Bihar, prompting calls from civil society for stricter enforcement of existing anti‑acid attack laws and faster judicial processes for perpetrators.
