The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged coordinated rallies on university campuses in Himachal Pradesh and Varanasi, urging students to reject anarchic tactics and uphold democratic values.
The student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, ABVP, mobilised supporters on campuses in Himachal Pradesh and Varanasi on Saturday, chanting the slogan “Stop Anarchy, Embrace Democracy.” Organisers claimed the rallies were a response to what they described as “anarchist tactics” being employed by fringe groups on university grounds.
According to statements released by the ABVP unit in Himachal, participants gathered at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and the Himachal Pradesh University, where they displayed placards and delivered speeches condemning violent protests and urging a return to democratic discourse. Similar actions were reported at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, where the local ABVP chapter held a march through the campus quad.
The rallies were peaceful, with no reports of clashes or police intervention. University authorities in both locations issued brief notices reminding students to maintain order and adhere to institutional guidelines. The ABVP said the events aim to reinforce democratic principles among the youth and counteract any attempts to destabilise campus environments.
While the organization highlighted the need for “constructive dialogue,” political analysts noted that the rallies also serve to project the ABVP’s influence ahead of upcoming student union elections in several universities across the country.
