Former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar has voiced criticism of the national team's preparation for the forthcoming Test series against New Zealand. Nayar, speaking to media outlets, highlighted what he perceives as gaps in India's red‑ball readiness, suggesting that the side may not be fully equipped to meet the challenges posed by the touring side.
He pointed out that adequate preparation on the longer format is essential for success, especially when facing a quality opponent like New Zealand. While he did not specify particular deficiencies, his comments underscore a broader debate within Indian cricket about the balance between limited‑overs focus and traditional Test training.
Nayar's remarks come as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finalises squad selections and training schedules ahead of the series. Stakeholders within the cricketing fraternity are expected to respond as the team gears up for the high‑stakes encounters in New Zealand.
