The Aam Aadmi Party has unveiled its first candidate list for the Punjab elections, announcing that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will contest from Dhuri and a jailed MLA has also been granted a ticket.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released its inaugural candidate list for the upcoming Punjab Legislative Assembly elections. The list names Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as the party’s candidate for the Dhuri constituency, marking his direct contest in the region.
In addition to Mann, the list includes a ticket for an MLA who is currently incarcerated, signalling AAP’s willingness to field candidates irrespective of their legal status. The party’s decision reflects its strategy to present a broad slate of candidates across the state.
The announcement was made publicly by AAP officials during a press briefing in Chandigarh. Party leaders emphasized that the list is a culmination of extensive consultations with local party units and grassroots volunteers.
AAP’s move comes as the party seeks to consolidate its presence in Punjab ahead of the elections scheduled for 2024. The inclusion of a jailed MLA has drawn attention from opposition parties and legal observers.
The candidate list is now available for public scrutiny, and AAP has urged voters to review the profiles of all nominees before casting their ballots.
