AAP leader Sanjay Singh said Delhi police used excessive force, detained thousands and shut metro stations during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and pledged to keep the agitation peaceful.
Delhi saw a large demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, organized by supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party. The protest, described by party MP Sanjay Singh as peaceful, turned contentious when police intervened.
Singh alleged that Delhi Police employed disproportionate force, rounding up thousands of demonstrators, closing several metro stations and imposing temporary internet restrictions. He claimed these measures stifled the right to assemble and voice concerns over alleged electoral irregularities.
The AAP representative urged protesters to remain non‑violent while continuing the agitation until their demands for a transparent electoral process are addressed. He emphasized that the movement would not be deterred by police actions.
As of now, police officials have not issued a formal response to the accusations, and the situation remains under close observation by city authorities.
