Doctors at AIIMS Bhopal successfully implanted cochlear devices in both ears of a nine‑month‑old infant, marking the youngest bilateral procedure recorded in central India.

AIIMS Bhopal announced that a nine‑month‑old infant underwent simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation, a milestone for the region. The surgical team, led by senior otolaryngologists, reported that the procedure was completed without complications and the child is now in the early stages of auditory rehabilitation.

According to the hospital, this is the youngest patient in central India to receive cochlear implants in both ears at the same time. The operation follows a thorough pre‑operative assessment, including imaging and audiological tests, to confirm the suitability of the infant for the devices.

The successful outcome is expected to improve the child’s hearing capabilities significantly, allowing for earlier speech development and better integration into normal learning environments. The team plans to monitor the child’s progress closely and share the findings with other pediatric otology centers across the country.
