State authorities in Karnataka rescued around 800 children from illegal workplaces as part of a large‑scale child‑labour crackdown.

Karnataka police and labour officials said that a coordinated operation across the state led to the rescue of roughly 800 minors who were found working in factories, workshops and other informal settings.

The children, aged between 6 and 15, were taken into protective custody and handed over to the child welfare department for medical check‑ups and rehabilitation.

Officials emphasized that the crackdown is part of a broader effort to enforce the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and to dismantle networks that exploit children for cheap labour.

The rescued minors will be placed in shelter homes while authorities continue to investigate the owners of the establishments and pursue legal action.

The operation underscores the state’s commitment to eradicate child labour, though officials warned that continued vigilance is required.
