A two‑day wave of violence swept across Manipur, pulling in all five major ethnic communities and prompting curfews and security deployments.
Over a recent 48‑hour span, violent confrontations erupted across Manipur, drawing in the state’s five principal ethnic communities. The clashes began in the early hours and quickly spread from one district to another, turning previously localized tensions into a statewide emergency.
Residents from each community reported street fighting, arson and looting, with public spaces such as markets and schools caught in the crossfire. The intensity of the unrest forced families to flee their homes, seeking shelter in temporary camps set up by local authorities.
In response, the Manipur government imposed a blanket curfew and called in additional police units, the state armed forces and paramilitary troops to restore order. Checkpoints were established on major highways, and a curfew enforcement team was deployed to deter further violence.
