Gujarat's health department has confirmed 42 cases of Chandipura virus and 28 fatalities recorded since June 30.
Gujarat's health authorities have announced that 42 individuals have tested positive for Chandipura virus, with 28 of them succumbing to the infection since June 30. The figures represent the cumulative count across the state over the past weeks.
The Chandipura virus, a rare encephalitic pathogen transmitted primarily by sandflies, has previously caused sporadic outbreaks in parts of India. Health officials are currently tracing contacts, enhancing surveillance in affected districts, and urging the public to seek immediate medical attention if fever or neurological symptoms appear.
State officials have mobilised additional medical resources and are coordinating with central health agencies to contain the spread. Residents are being advised to use protective measures against sandfly bites and to report any suspected cases promptly.
