Police in Jharkhand have booked 38 individuals for allegedly molesting a protester during a recruitment exam demonstration.

Police officials in Jharkhand confirmed that 38 persons have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly molesting a civil society activist during a protest against a state recruitment examination. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by the activist, who said he was physically harassed by a large group of protestors.

The protest, which began on Saturday, was organized by candidates and aspirants upset over perceived irregularities in the recruitment process for government posts. Demonstrators gathered outside the examination centre in a major city of the state, demanding transparency and a fair selection procedure.

Investigators said the accused were identified through video footage and eyewitness statements. They have been charged with offences including molestation, criminal intimidation and unlawful assembly. The police have also seized mobile phones and other devices that may contain further evidence.

State law enforcement has urged the public to cooperate with the ongoing inquiry and assured that any further violations will be dealt with strictly. The incident adds a layer of tension to an already volatile situation surrounding the recruitment exam protests.
