A recent survey in Meghalaya has recorded 35 previously undocumented animal species within a single year, highlighting the state’s rich biodiversity.
Recent surveys across Meghalaya’s forested hills and valleys have documented 35 animal species that were not previously recorded, marking a significant addition to the region’s known wildlife.
The discoveries span a variety of taxa, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a biodiversity hotspot in India’s Northeast.
Conservation experts note that the findings underscore the urgency of protecting these habitats, as many of the newly identified species could be vulnerable to habitat loss.
The data are being forwarded to national wildlife authorities for inclusion in official species registers, which may guide future conservation policies.
