The Election Commission of India (ECI) has confirmed that 32.7 million individuals between 18 and 28 years of age have been added to the national electoral roll since June 2025. This surge reflects the ongoing effort to enrol first‑time voters and expand the youth franchise.
The commission also outlined a recently introduced declaration rule, which obliges newly registered young voters to affirm their personal and residential details within a stipulated period. The measure aims to improve the accuracy of the roll and reduce duplicate or invalid entries.
EC officials said the rule will be enforced through online portals and designated facilitation centres, allowing voters to complete the declaration without visiting a physical office. The commission urged the newly added electors to comply promptly to ensure their names remain active for upcoming elections.
