The Jharkhand government has launched a forest‑conservation programme that will tie protective ‘rakhis’ around 300,000 trees across the state.
Jharkhand’s Forest Department has announced a large‑scale conservation initiative that will affix symbolic rakhis to three lakh trees throughout the state. The move is intended to raise public awareness and provide a visible marker of trees that are under protection.
Under the scheme, local officials and community volunteers will tie the rakhis during a series of field events scheduled over the coming months. Each rakhi will be recorded in a database to help monitor the health and growth of the tagged trees.
The programme aligns with broader state efforts to curb deforestation and promote sustainable forest management. By involving citizens directly, the government hopes to foster a sense of ownership and deter illegal felling.
While details on funding and long‑term monitoring are being finalised, the initiative marks one of the most ambitious tree‑protection drives in Jharkhand to date.
