29 Crime Victims in Kolasib, Mizoram Awarded Rs 1.28 Crore Compensation

Kolasib district officials handed over a lump‑sum compensation of Rs 1.28 crore to thirty‑nine victims of various criminal incidents, as part of the state’s victim‑relief scheme. The payment, announced by the Mizoram Chief Minister’s office, aims to provide financial redress to those affected by violent offences recorded over the past year.

Each of the 29 beneficiaries received an amount that varies according to the severity of the crime and the economic impact on the family, with the average payout hovering around Rs 4.4 lakh. The compensation is being released under the state’s “Victims’ Assistance Programme,” which was introduced to expedite support for families facing loss of livelihood or medical expenses after a crime.

Victims and their families expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, noting that the funds will help cover medical bills, rehabilitation costs and other urgent needs. The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening law‑and‑order mechanisms and ensuring that similar support mechanisms remain accessible across Mizoram.
