In a rare parliamentary move, 250 opposition MPs gathered on Mallikarjun Kharge’s lawn to table a motion seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
250 opposition Members of Parliament assembled on the lawn of senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge to file a formal impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The motion, tabled in the Lok Sabha, alleges that the CEC has acted with bias and failed to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
The opposition claims that the CEC’s recent decisions have undermined public confidence in elections and calls for a thorough investigation.
The ruling party is expected to reject the motion, while the opposition will present evidence and witnesses to support its case.
The move marks a significant escalation in the ongoing debate over the independence and conduct of the Election Commission.
