The Karnataka government has added 25 more taluks to its drought watch list, highlighting worsening water scarcity across the state.

The state administration announced today that twenty‑five further taluks have been placed on Karnataka's official drought list, bringing the total number of affected sub‑districts to a new high. The decision follows a recent assessment of rainfall deficits and groundwater levels across the region.

Officials said the added taluks are experiencing prolonged dry spells, declining reservoir inflows and stressed irrigation systems, which threaten crop sowing and livestock rearing. The government has urged farmers in the newly listed areas to adopt water‑saving practices and to apply for any relief schemes that may be announced.

The department of agriculture and the water resources ministry are coordinating to monitor the situation closely and to expedite the release of emergency funds for borewell drilling, drip‑irrigation subsidies and fodder distribution where needed. Authorities have also warned that continued shortfalls could compel further extensions of drought‑related assistance.
