A two‑year‑old boy died after slipping into an uncovered pit intended for a septic tank in Dahra village, Taradehi police area of Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh.

The incident took place in Dahra, a village under the Taradehi police station in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. The child, identified as two‑year‑old Mahendra, was playing near a construction site when he fell into an open pit that had been left uncovered for several months.
The pit, originally dug for the installation of a septic tank, had remained exposed for about five months despite ongoing work. Local residents said the area was not cordoned off, and children often played nearby, increasing the risk of accidents.
Police officials arrived at the scene after the fall was reported and confirmed the boy’s death. An investigation has been launched to determine why safety measures were not implemented and to hold responsible parties accountable.
Authorities have urged the community and contractors to secure all open excavations and to follow safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
