Researchers have documented fifteen previously unknown rove beetle species from the forests of Arunachal Pradesh, expanding the known biodiversity of the region.

Scientists conducting field surveys in the forested hills of Arunachal Pradesh have recorded fifteen rove beetle species that are new to science. The specimens were collected from several sites across the state and examined by taxonomists, who confirmed that they do not match any described species in existing catalogs.

Rove beetles (family Staphylinidae) are among the most diverse insect groups, playing crucial roles as predators of other small arthropods and as indicators of ecosystem health. The addition of fifteen species markedly raises the known rove beetle count for Arunachal Pradesh, a region already recognized for its rich but under‑explored fauna.

The discovery underscores the importance of continued biodiversity assessments in the Eastern Himalayas, where many habitats remain poorly surveyed. Conservationists say the findings highlight the need to protect forest areas that harbor such unique insects, and they call for further taxonomic work to fully document the state's insect wealth.
