After being stranded for two days by severe floods in Nepal, 110 pilgrims from Maharashtra were escorted back to India through the Bhitthamod border on Friday.

Severe monsoon floods in Nepal cut off access to several pilgrimage routes, leaving a group of 110 devotees from Maharashtra's Nagpur, Nasik and Pune regions stranded for two days. Local authorities in Nepal coordinated with Indian officials to arrange a safe passage once the water levels receded enough for movement.

On Friday, the pilgrims were escorted to the Bhitthamod border crossing in Bihar, where Indian border security personnel facilitated their orderly entry into the country. All travelers were accounted for and none reported injuries during the evacuation.

The swift bilateral cooperation highlighted the effectiveness of existing protocols for cross‑border humanitarian assistance, especially during natural disasters. The pilgrims expressed gratitude to both Nepalese and Indian officials for the timely support that enabled their return home.
