Hundreds of drivers were taken into custody during a protest at Lower PMG in Odisha, authorities said.
Earlier today, a protest at Lower PMG in Odisha turned into a police crackdown, with authorities arresting 100 drivers who had gathered to voice their grievances.
The demonstrators, who were mainly commercial and private vehicle operators, had assembled on the Lower PMG stretch to protest what they described as inadequate road maintenance and rising toll charges.
Police moved in after the crowd grew large, detaining the drivers and seizing their vehicles. The officers cited disorderly conduct and obstruction of traffic as the basis for the arrests.
The Odisha Police Commissioner released a statement that the action was taken to restore public order and ensure smooth traffic flow on the busy route.
