10 Children Hospitalised After Eating Misidentified Fruit in Gwalior Village

In Sirsaud village near Gwalior, 10 children fell ill after consuming fruit mistaken for dry fruit. Two are in critical condition in ICU.
In the village of Sirsaud, located on the outskirts of Gwalior, a cluster of 10 children presented with vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain after eating fruit that was mistaken for a dry fruit. The fruit, identified post‑incident as a variety of *Ratanjot*, was harvested from a plant growing beside a local field.
All affected children were taken to the nearest government hospital where they were examined and admitted. Two of the children have been reported to be in critical condition and are currently under intensive care unit (ICU) treatment.
Medical officials have advised parents to seek immediate care if their children exhibit similar symptoms after consuming unfamiliar produce. The hospital has increased its monitoring of the affected patients and is conducting a preliminary investigation into the source of the fruit.
Local authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident and are urging farmers to label unfamiliar plants clearly to prevent future mishaps. The incident has drawn attention to the importance of food safety awareness in rural communities.
